Maine Child Care Tax Credit

 

The Maine Legislature approved a tax credit for any Maine resident who enrolls their child or children in a "quality" child care center or home day care. This credit is available for child care expenses incurred after December 31, 2000. The new law doubles the credit currently allowed from the amount of 25% of federal tax credit allowable for child care expenses.

The Definition of "quality child care" is:

For Centers NAEYC Accredited centers require all lead teachers to have at least a CDA Credential for formal education. NAEYC Accredited Centers receive a 10% increase on supplemental RDC voucher rates & Title XX voucher rates Families who enroll their children in a NAEYC Accredited childcare center will receive a double state tax credit for child care expenses.
For Family Child Cares Family Day Care providers must have current accreditation with NAFCC, CDA, or a college degree in Early Childhood Education. Family Child Care Providers with a Quality Certficate receive a 10% increase on supplemental RDC voucher rates & Title XX voucher rates Families who enroll their children in a NAEYC Accredited childcare center will receive a double state tax credit for child care expenses.
